Having turned forty, Aldo finds his life taking an unexpected turn: he is ghosted by Alessia, his partner of almost fifteen years. In the existential pit that follows, unable to clear his mind for anything, he takes the advice of his lifelong friend Sonia and goes to a psychotherapist to share the questions gnawing at him.
His encounter with Carlo — a man in his seventies, introverted and sedentary — and the discovery that forty years earlier Carlo went through exactly what Aldo is living now, becomes the turning point towards a new awareness and a new phase of his life, as well as the likely beginning of a genuine friendship.
Aldo stands at a crossroads: a job that works but says nothing of what he really believes in, a personal life on the wane, a world around him that seems to have lost its old flavours. Carlo appears at first as his opposite, but is in the end a projection of Aldo himself. From that encounter comes a bittersweet comedy, set in a chaotic Sicily, about a man of forty who has to start from nothing and realise that life can begin again, even alone and on his own strength.
